This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Anatrichobius flies exhibit the characteristic flattened body form typical of many hippoboscid ectoparasites.[1] The body is dorsoventrally compressed, facilitating movement through the fur of their mammalian hosts. The head is relatively small and closely associated with the thorax, while the legs are robust and equipped with specialized claws for gripping host hair.[1]
Anatrichobius are ectoparasitic flies. Specifically, Anatrichobius scorzai has been documented as a parasite of the bat Myotis nigricans.[2] Research in the Chucantí Nature Reserve in Panama has identified A. scorzai in the Darién region.[3] Additionally, Anatrichobius has been identified as a host for the bacterium Arsenophonus.[2]
