Anatopynia plumipes is a member of the family Chironomidae, commonly known as non-biting midges. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, specimens exhibit the characteristic slender, midge-like body form typical of the family.[1] The adults possess long, delicate legs and wings that are held over the abdomen when at rest.[1]
Ecology and Distribution
Anatopynia plumipes has been documented to exhibit tolerance to low oxygen pressures and low temperatures, as observed in studies of frozen lakes in northern Sweden.[2]
