Anastrepha schultzi is a fruit fly species within the family Tephritidae. Based on examination of museum specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic body form of the genus Anastrepha. The specimens display a distinct, patterned wing venation typical of tephritids, with brownish markings visible on the wing membrane. The thorax and abdomen show a yellowish-brown coloration. These morphological traits are consistent with observations of Anastrepha species in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset.[1]
Anastrepha schultzi is known to occur in regions such as the Abancay Valley in Apurímac, Peru.[2] Research conducted in this area between 2014 and 2015 identified it as a constant species, present in more than 50% of collections, though it was classified as non-dominant.[2]
The species shows population fluctuations, with peak abundance occurring during the dry season (June–September). Its population levels have been found to have a negative correlation with maximum temperatures.[2] Anastrepha schultzi is polyphagous, having been recorded on at least 16 different host plant species in the study area.[2]
