Anastrepha parallela is a species of fruit fly within the family Tephritidae. Observations of museum specimens indicate that, like other members of the genus Anastrepha, it possesses a characteristic wing pattern featuring brown or yellowish-brown bands. The body exhibits the typical tephritid form, with a distinct, often yellowish or brownish coloration.[1]
Anastrepha parallela was originally described by Wiedemann in 1830 as Dacus parallelus.[2] Taxonomic studies of the genus Anastrepha in Brazil have included examinations of this species, specifically focusing on the morphology of the female genitalia to aid in identification.[3] The apex of the ovipositor of Anastrepha parallela has been documented in taxonomic literature to provide diagnostic characters.[3]
