Anastrepha panamensis is a fruit fly species within the family Tephritidae. Based on examination of museum specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic body form of the genus Anastrepha. The specimens display typical tephritid wing patterns, which are often used for diagnostic identification in this genus.[1]
Anastrepha panamensis has been documented interacting with host plants in the family Sapotaceae. Specifically, it has been recorded as having host associations with Chrysophyllum argenteum and Chrysophyllum cainito.[2]
The species was described by C.T. Greene in 1934. The original description was published in the Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, as part of a revision of the genus Anastrepha based on wing morphology and the length of the ovipositor sheath.[3]
