Anastrepha pallens is a fruit fly species within the family Tephritidae. Examination of preserved museum specimens reveals the characteristic body form of the genus Anastrepha, including a distinctively patterned wing venation typical of the family. The specimens exhibit a generally pale to yellowish body coloration, consistent with the specific epithet pallens.[1]
Anastrepha pallens is found in Mexico, where it has been studied in association with the fruits of Sideroxylon celastrinum (Sapotaceae). Research in central Veracruz indicates that A. pallens exhibits an altitudinal distribution pattern, prevailing in warmer lowland areas (270–720 m range) compared to the related Anastrepha dentata, which dominates higher elevations. The two species may co-occur at intermediate elevations.[2]
Developmental studies show that A. pallens develops more rapidly in warmer lowland environments. Infestation patterns are influenced by fruit morphology, with canonical discriminant analysis identifying fruit length as a primary trait associated with A. pallens infestation. The species typically exhibits a strict one-larva-per-fruit pattern. Parasitism rates for this species have been observed to be minimal.[2]
