Anastrepha ornata is a species of fruit fly within the family Tephritidae. Observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal characteristic wing patterns typical of the genus, featuring distinct, dark, reticulated or banded markings against a lighter, translucent wing membrane.[1] The body exhibits a yellowish-brown coloration, consistent with the general appearance of many Anastrepha species.[1]
Anastrepha is recognized as the most diverse genus of fruit flies native to the Americas.[2] Anastrepha ornata has been documented in Colombia, including a record from the department of Cundinamarca.[2]
The species was described by J.M. Aldrich in 1925.[3] The original description was published in the Proceedings of the United States National Museum.[3]
