Anastrepha obscura is a species of fruit fly within the family Tephritidae. Observations of museum specimens indicate that the species exhibits the characteristic body form of the genus Anastrepha, including a distinct, patterned wing structure typical of tephritid flies.[1]
Research into the genetic mechanisms of sex determination in the genus Anastrepha has highlighted the functional conservation of the doublesex (dsx) gene. Studies have shown that Anastrepha dsx proteins (DsxF and DsxM) can influence sexual development in Drosophila (Drosophilidae). When expressed in Drosophila, these proteins act as activators and repressors of yolk protein genes, similar to endogenous Drosophila Dsx proteins, although the transformation is incomplete, suggesting evolutionary divergence in the co-adapted complexes between Dsx proteins and their target genes.[2]
