Based on observations of preserved specimens, Anastrepha minuta exhibits characteristic features of the genus Anastrepha. The body displays a brownish coloration typical of many fruit flies in this group. The wings are marked with distinct, dark, patterned bands, which are diagnostic for species identification within the genus.[1]
Anastrepha minuta Stone, 1942, is a fruit fly species associated with humid ecosystems, particularly tropical rainforests.[2]
In Mexico, it is considered a rare and little-known species, with records limited to humid environments in Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, and Los Chimalapas, Oaxaca.[2] Its presence in Los Chimalapas has been observed to coincide with the summer rainy season, specifically during June and July.[2] Beyond Mexico, the species has a continental distribution that includes Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Colombia.[2]
The ongoing deforestation of tropical forests in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region is considered a potential threat to the distribution of A. minuta due to the reduction of available habitat and potential host plants.[2]
