Based on observations of preserved specimens, Anastrepha distans exhibits the characteristic body form of the genus Anastrepha.[1] The specimens display typical tephritid features, including a distinct, patterned wing venation pattern and a robust thorax.[1] Due to the nature of the preserved museum specimens, finer morphological details such as subtle setal patterns or specific abdominal coloration are difficult to resolve in the available imagery.[1]
Anastrepha distans was described by Friedrich Hendel in 1914.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Anastrepha, a group of fruit flies in the family Tephritidae.[2]
