Anastrepha crebra is a fruit fly species within the family Tephritidae. Based on examination of museum specimens, the adult fly exhibits the characteristic body form of the genus Anastrepha, with a generally yellowish-brown coloration. The specimens observed show typical tephritid features, including a distinct head with prominent eyes and a thorax and abdomen that are relatively slender.[1]
The third instar larvae of A. crebra have been characterized using light and scanning electron microscopy. This morphological study is part of the broader characterization of the Anastrepha mucronota species group. Diagnostic features for the larvae of A. crebra and other members of this group include novel structures such as vertical comb-like processes on the oral margin, as well as specific configurations of the preoral lobe and the posterior margins of the oral ridges and accessory plates.[2]
