Based on observations of museum specimens, Anastrepha compressa exhibits the characteristic morphology of the genus Anastrepha. The body displays the typical tephritid form, with a distinct, somewhat compressed abdomen, which is reflected in its specific epithet. The wings are marked with the complex, characteristic brown or yellowish-brown banding patterns common to many species in this genus, which are used for identification.[1]
Anastrepha compressa is associated with humid ecosystems, particularly within tropical rainforests. Its known distribution is relatively wide, extending from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca, Mexico, southwards to Panama.[2]
