Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Anastrepha barbiellinii exhibits the characteristic morphology of the genus Anastrepha.[1] The specimens display a distinct, patterned wing venation typical of tephritid fruit flies, with brownish markings forming a characteristic pattern across the wing membrane. The body is generally yellowish-brown, with a robust thorax and a rounded abdomen. These morphological traits are consistent with the identification of the species within the Anastrepha genus.[1]
Anastrepha barbiellinii is a species of fruit fly found in Brazil.[2] Research conducted in anthropic areas on the "Luiz de Queiroz" campus in Piracicaba, São Paulo, has documented its presence.[2]
In these environments, A. barbiellinii has been observed to co-occur with Anastrepha fraterculus.[2] Competition between these two species for hosts is considered unlikely, as A. barbiellinii is associated with Cactaceae of the genus Pereskia, whereas A. fraterculus is highly polyphagous.[2] Population monitoring has indicated that A. barbiellinii reaches its peak abundance in November in these study areas.[2]
