Visual Description
Anastrepha australis is a fruit fly characterized by a distinct, elongated ovipositor in females, which is clearly visible in preserved specimens. The body exhibits a brownish coloration, typical of many species within the genus. The wings are hyaline with characteristic venation patterns consistent with the Tephritidae family.[1]
Distribution and Research
Anastrepha australis (Blanchard, 1960) is a recognized species within the genus Anastrepha.[2] It was originally described as Toxotrypana australis.[2] Recent entomological surveys have identified this species as a new distribution record for Paraguay.[3]
