Anastrepha anomala is a fruit fly characterized by its small size, as observed in museum specimens. The adult fly exhibits a distinct wing structure typical of the genus, with characteristic venation patterns visible in preserved specimens. The body is generally light-colored, and the specimen is often associated with its puparium in collections.[1]
Anastrepha anomala Stone has been identified as a host for various hymenopteran parasitoids. Research conducted in Panama (Cerro Jefe and Altos de Pacora) between 2003 and 2005 found this species in the fruits of Lacmellea panamensis (Apocynaceae).[2]
Parasitoids reared from A. anomala include Doryctobracon capsicola (Muesebeck), which represents a new host record for this parasitoid, and Opius bellus Gahan. Statistical analysis from the study area suggests a dependent relationship between these parasitoid species and the Anastrepha species present.[2]
