Visual Description
Anastrebla modestini is a species of streblid bat fly.[2] Based on examination of museum specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic flattened body form typical of ectoparasitic bat flies, which facilitates movement through the fur of their host.[1] The specimens show a robust, sclerotized exoskeleton with distinct, elongated legs adapted for clinging to host hair.[1]
Ecology and Biology
Anastrebla modestini is an ectoparasite that specifically parasitizes the bat Anoura geoffroyi (Phyllostomidae).[2] Research conducted in southeastern Brazil identified this species as a significant component of the ectoparasite community on A. geoffroyi, representing approximately 30% of sampled streblid specimens in the study area.[2] Population levels of A. modestini are known to fluctuate seasonally, with peak abundance observed during the rainy season.[2]
