Based on observations of preserved specimens, Anastomyza hyalipennis exhibits typical dipteran morphology. The specimens display a relatively slender body structure characteristic of many heleomyzid flies. The wings are clear (hyaline), which is consistent with the specific epithet hyalipennis. The thorax and abdomen show a brownish coloration, and the legs are relatively long and slender. The head features prominent compound eyes and characteristic setation typical of the family Heleomyzidae.[1]
Anastomyza hyalipennis was described by J.R. Malloch in 1933, as part of his work on the Acalyptrata of Patagonia and Southern Chile.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Anastomyza, belonging to the family Heleomyzidae.[2]
