Visual Description
Anastoechus nitidulus is a bee fly characterized by a dense, hairy appearance typical of the family Bombyliidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a robust, rounded body covered in thick, pale-to-yellowish setae, which provide a fuzzy texture. The wings are generally clear and held in a characteristic position, often slightly spread when at rest. The head features large, prominent eyes and a long, slender proboscis, which is a diagnostic feature used for nectar feeding.[1]
Distribution
The species has a broad Palaearctic distribution. Its range extends from Belgium through Central Europe into the European part of Russia, and reaches eastwards to Greece, Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Japan. Within Russia, it is found from the North Caucasus to South Siberia and Yakutia.[2]
