Visual Description
Anasimyia contracta is a species of hoverfly. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show that the adult fly exhibits characteristic features of the genus Anasimyia.[1] The body is typically elongated, with distinct abdominal markings that are often patterned with yellow or orange and black. The wings are clear and held in a characteristic position when at rest. The head features large, prominent compound eyes, which are holoptic in males.
Distribution and Status
Anasimyia contracta was described by Claussen and Torp in 1980.[2] It has been documented as part of the hoverfly fauna in Austria, where it was identified as a new record in a comprehensive checklist of the family Syrphidae.[3]
