Anarmostus is a genus of robber flies (family Asilidae). Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, these flies exhibit a robust, typical asilid body form. Key visible traits include a prominent, bristly mystax (facial hair) and a strong, piercing proboscis characteristic of the family's predatory lifestyle. The wings are often clear or lightly tinted, and the thorax and abdomen display distinct setal patterns.[1]
Biology and Classification
Anarmostus is a genus within the family Asilidae. The species Anarmostus iopterus (Wiedemann, 1828) is recognized as a highly characteristic species within the genus.[2] Historical taxonomic work has established Laphria albolineata Macquart, 1850, which was described from Bolivia, as a junior synonym of Anarmostus iopterus.[2]
