Visual Description
Anaretella iola is a species of gall midge within the family Cecidomyiidae. While specific morphological details are often difficult to resolve from standard specimen images, members of this genus are generally recognized as small, delicate flies. As with other cecidomyiids, they typically exhibit long, slender legs and antennae, and reduced wing venation.[1]
General Information
Anaretella iola was described by A.E. Pritchard in 1951. The species was formally documented in his work, "The North American gall midges of the tribe Lestremiini, Itonididae (Cecidomyiidae) Diptera," published in the University of California Publications in Entomology.[2]
