General Information
Anaretella defecta (Winnertz, 1870) is a species of midge belonging to the family Cecidomyiidae, specifically within the subfamily Lestremiinae.[2] The genus Anaretella is recognized as a cosmopolitan group of mycophagous midges.[3]
Morphology
The genus Anaretella is distinguished from other Neotropical Lestremiinae genera by specific morphological traits, including the presence of furcate antennal translucent sensilla arising from enlarged alveoli, alongside regular hair-shaped translucent sensilla. Additionally, the tegmen features subapical projections.[3]
Visual Description
