Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Anaeropsis flies exhibit the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of stilt-legged flies (Micropezidae).[1] They possess notably long, thin legs and elongated wings that extend well beyond the abdomen.[1]
Classification and Morphology
Anaeropsis is a genus of stilt-legged flies within the family Micropezidae.[2] It is currently classified within the subfamily Eurybatinae.[3]
Within the Eurybatinae, Anaeropsis is distinguished by the absence of a sclerotized postmetacoxal bridge, a trait it shares with several other genera including Cothornobata, Crepidochetus, Eurybata, Notenthes, Paraeurybata, and Trepidarioides.[3] Historically, the genus was placed in the subfamily Calobatinae by Enderlein in 1922.[3]
