Anacanthella splendens is a soldier fly characterized by a robust, somewhat flattened body typical of many Stratiomyidae. Observations of preserved specimens reveal a distinct, metallic or iridescent sheen on the thorax and abdomen, which likely contributes to its specific epithet, splendens. The wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, with the characteristic venation patterns of the family. The antennae are relatively short, and the legs appear slender.[1]
Anacanthella splendens was described by the French entomologist Pierre-Justin-Marie Macquart in 1855. The original description was published in his work Diptères exotiques nouveaux ou peu connus, specifically in the fifth supplement.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anacanthella.[2]
