Visual Description
Anabarhynchus projectus is a species of stiletto fly. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal characteristic features of the genus.[1] The flies exhibit a slender, elongated body typical of the family Therevidae. The head is relatively large with prominent, holoptic eyes in males. The thorax is covered in fine, dense setae, and the abdomen is tapering, often displaying distinct banding patterns. The wings are clear or lightly infuscated, with characteristic venation patterns consistent with the Anabarhynchus genus-group.[1]
Distribution and Taxonomy
Anabarhynchus projectus was described by Leif Lyneborg in 2001 as part of his work on the Australian stiletto-flies of the Anabarhynchus genus-group.[2]
