Visual Description
Anabarhynchus mcalpinei is a species of stiletto fly. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult fly exhibits a slender, elongated body typical of the family Therevidae.[1] The thorax and abdomen are covered in fine, dense setae (hairs), which contribute to a somewhat matte or velvety appearance. The wings are clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest. The eyes are large and holoptic in males, occupying a significant portion of the head.[1]
Classification and Distribution
Anabarhynchus mcalpinei was described by Leif Lyneborg in 2001.[2] It is part of the Anabarhynchus genus-group, a group of stiletto flies found in Australia.[2]
