Visual Description
Anabarhynchus latifrons is a species of stiletto fly. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult fly exhibits a slender, elongated body typical of the family Therevidae.[1] The thorax and abdomen are covered in fine, dense setae (hairs), which are characteristic of many members of this genus. The wings are generally clear or slightly tinted, with distinct venation patterns typical of the order Diptera. The head is relatively large with prominent, holoptic or dichoptic eyes depending on the sex, and the antennae are forward-projecting.[1]
Distribution and Classification
Anabarhynchus latifrons was described by the entomologist Pierre-Justin-Marie Macquart in 1850.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Anabarhynchus, which is well-represented in the Australian dipteran fauna.[3]
