Visual Description
Anabarhynchus alpinus exhibits the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of stiletto flies (Therevidae). Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset show a fly with a greyish, somewhat pollinose (dusty) appearance on the thorax and abdomen.[1] The compound eyes are large and prominent, occupying a significant portion of the head. The wings are clear with distinct venation, extending beyond the tip of the abdomen. The legs are relatively long and slender, equipped with visible setae (bristles).[1]
Biology and Distribution
Anabarhynchus alpinus was described by entomologist Leif Lyneborg in 2001 as part of his work on the Australian stiletto-fly Anabarhynchus genus-group.[2] As a member of the family Therevidae, it is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Anabarhynchus.[3]
