Visual Description
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Amygdalops are small flies typical of the family Anthomyzidae.[1] They exhibit a slender body form with wings that are often held flat or slightly overlapping over the abdomen. The head features prominent compound eyes, and the thorax and abdomen are typically marked with patterns that may include dark brown or blackish coloration.[1]
Ecology and Biology
Biological information for Oriental and East Palaearctic anthomyzids, including Amygdalops, is generally scarce.[2] Species such as Am. nigrinotum are considered common and have been collected from herbaceous vegetation in creek valleys, often in areas grazed by buffaloes, as well as at brooks and rivers in various forests and in light traps.[2] Other species, such as Am. cuspidatus and Am. curtisi, have also been associated with low herbaceous vegetation and forest brooks.[2]
