Visual Description
Ampsalis wallacei is a species of soldier fly. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult exhibits a slender, wasp-like body form, characteristic of the genus Ampsalis.[1] The abdomen is elongated and shows distinct banding patterns, with coloration that includes dark and lighter, possibly yellowish or brownish, segments.[1]
Biology and Distribution
Ampsalis wallacei was described by Shaun L. Winterton in 2023.[2][3] It is recognized as a wasp-mimicking soldier fly within the subfamily Clitellariinae.[3] The species is part of a revision of the genus Ampsalis along with Elissoma and Lagenosoma in the Australian Region.[3]
