Overview
Ampsalis is a genus of soldier flies in the family Stratiomyidae. Recent taxonomic revisions have restricted the genus to Ampsalis sensu stricto, which includes species from Indonesia and northern Australia.[2]

Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Ampsalis flies exhibit a slender, wasp-like body form, consistent with their classification as wasp-mimicking soldier flies.[1] The body displays distinct coloration patterns, often featuring dark, sclerotized regions contrasted with lighter, potentially translucent or yellow-toned areas on the abdomen.[1]
