Visual Description
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Amplisegmentum exhibit typical stiletto fly morphology.[1] They possess a slender, elongated body form characteristic of the family Therevidae. The head is relatively large with prominent eyes, and the thorax and abdomen are covered in fine, hair-like setae. The wings are clear and held in a characteristic position when at rest.[1]
History and Classification
The genus Amplisegmentum was described by Donald W. Webb in 2005.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted genus within the family Therevidae.[3] The genus was published in Zootaxa 1091.[3]
