Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Amphoterus cribratus exhibits characteristic features of the family Syrphidae. The specimens display a robust body form typical of many hoverflies. Key visible traits include a distinct, patterned abdomen and well-developed wings. The thorax and head structures are consistent with the morphology of the genus Amphoterus.[1]
Amphoterus cribratus was described by Mario Bezzi in 1915 in his work on the Syrphidae of the Ethiopian Region.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Amphoterus.[3]
