Visual Description
Members of Amphiute (Leucosolenida, Calcarea) are small calcareous sponges commonly represented in museum collections as preserved specimens. In available image records, the sponge appears as a light-colored, rigid, and relatively low-profile growth form on a substrate, consistent with calcareous sponge morphology (e.g., compact encrusting and/or small tufted habit in preserved condition).
General Biology and Classification Notes
Amphiute is recognized as an accepted genus within the calcareous sponge order Leucosolenida and family Grantiidae. GBIF lists the genus with authorship as Hanitsch (1894).[2]

GBIF indicates that Amphiute currently has two descendant taxa recorded beneath the genus.[2]
