Visual Description
Amphipogon flavus is a small fly characterized by a generally slender body form typical of the family Piophilidae. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a distinct yellowish to brownish coloration across the body. The wings are typically clear and held flat over the abdomen when at rest. The head features prominent, relatively large compound eyes and well-developed antennae. The legs are slender, and the overall body surface appears somewhat smooth with fine, sparse setation.[1]
History and Classification
Amphipogon flavus was originally described by the entomologist J.W. Zetterstedt in 1838 under the name Macrochira flava. It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Amphipogon in the family Piophilidae.[2]
