Amphineurus umbraticus is a species of crane fly within the family Limoniidae. Based on observations of preserved specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic delicate, slender body form typical of many limoniids. The wings are relatively long and narrow, often displaying a faint, mottled, or patterned appearance consistent with the "umbraticus" epithet. The legs are notably elongated and fragile, a common trait in this group.[1]
Amphineurus umbraticus was originally described by F.A.A. Skuse in 1890 as Rhypholophus umbraticus in his work "Diptera of Australia. VII.--The Tipulidae brevipalpi."[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Amphineurus.[2]
