Ecology and Symbiosis (Microbial Associates)
In a study focused on sponge-associated culturable bacteria, a specimen identified as Amphimedon ochracea from the Red Sea coast of Egypt (El-Gouna; SCUBA; ~1.5 m depth) was used as the sampling host for bacterial isolation.[3]
The authors reported Gram-positive bacterial associates identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, including Bacillus spp. and Lactobacillus murinus. Crude extracts from these bacterial isolates were screened for in vitro cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines.[3]
