Recent taxonomic work within Hyalonematidae (Hexactinellida, Amphidiscosida) includes the formal description of two new species of Hyalonema (Cyliconema) from deep-sea habitats in the Indo-West Pacific. These species were diagnosed using detailed morphological/skeletal characters (including spicule arrangements and related features) and supported with molecular phylogenetic analysis using 16S rDNA.[4]
