This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Amphidiscella is a genus of hexactinellid (“glass”) sponges in the family Euplectellidae, within the order Lyssacinosida. In biodiversity databases, Amphidiscella is treated as accepted, with authorship attributed to Tabachnick & Lévi (1997).[2]
GBIF reports that Amphidiscella has multiple descendant taxa (numDescendants: 7 in the GBIF match output provided).[2]
Images linked to Amphidiscella records (including preserved-specimen and photographic/ROV-derived views) reflect typical euplectellid/lyssacinosid glass-sponge morphologies: rigid, lattice-like siliceous frameworks forming stalked or branched/tube-like growth forms in gallery-style documentation.[1]
Sponge-derived environmental DNA (eDNA) has been used to detect demersal fish biodiversity on deep-sea seamounts by treating sponge tissue as a “natural filtration” substrate. In the cited study, sponges of the class Hexactinellida showed the highest fish detection rates, and Amphidiscella occurs among the sponge taxa included for detection modeling (as Amphidiscella monai).[3]
