Visual Description
Amphibolia assimilis is a species of fly within the family Tachinidae. Based on observations of specimens, the species exhibits a robust, bristly body typical of many tachinids. The thorax and abdomen often display metallic or iridescent coloration, which is a common feature in the tribe Rutiliini to which the genus belongs. The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, and the head features prominent compound eyes and well-developed antennae.[1]
Biology and Classification
Amphibolia assimilis was described by Pierre-Justin-Marie Macquart in 1851, originally under the name Rutilia assimilis.[2] It is classified within the family Tachinidae, a diverse group of endoparasitoid flies.[3] Like other members of this family, the larvae of Amphibolia species are typically endoparasitoids that develop within arthropod hosts.[3]
