Ampelomyia vitispomum is a gall-inducing insect. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species is associated with the formation of distinct, often spherical or grape-like galls on host plants of the family Vitaceae, such as Vitis mustangensis.[1][2]
Biology and Ecology
Ampelomyia vitispomum was described by Carl Robert Osten-Sacken in 1878.[3] It is a member of the family Cecidomyiidae, commonly known as gall midges.[4] As a gall-inducing insect, its larvae develop within abnormal plant growths (galls) induced on its host plants, which include species in the family Vitaceae.[2]
