Visual Description
In museum specimen images, Amorphinopsis foetida appears as a preserved demosponge body with a soft, irregular surface morphology. Specimens show a generally encrusting to massive growth form, with color ranging from light tan to brownish tones in preservation.

GBIF lists Amorphinopsis foetida as an accepted species (Dendy, 1889).[2]

Amorphinopsis foetida has been included in comparative functional studies of demosponge aquiferous systems. In the wider comparative set, pumping throughput (measured via dye-excursion velocity and osculum geometry) is positively associated with higher investment in the filtration apparatus (e.g., choanocyte chamber metrics and choanocyte abundance), while higher investment in spicule/inorganic structural components tends to correlate with reduced pumping-related variables.[3]
