Visual Description
Amoebaleria helvola is a fly characterized by a generally yellowish-brown coloration, consistent with the etymology of its specific epithet. Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits typical dipteran morphology, including a pair of functional wings and prominent compound eyes. The body is covered in fine setae (bristles), a common feature among members of the family Heleomyzidae. The legs are relatively slender and also feature distinct bristles, which are often used in taxonomic identification.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Amoebaleria helvola was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1862 under the name Scoliocentra helvola.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Amoebaleria.[2]
