Visual Description
Amma blancheae is a species of kelp fly. Observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these flies possess a robust, typical dipteran body plan.[1]
Biology and Ecology
Amma blancheae is a member of the family Coelopidae, commonly known as kelp flies.[2] Literature notes that this species exhibits sexual dimorphism, with males possessing reduced bristles compared to females.[2] While the family Coelopidae is characterized by extreme sexual conflict and female resistance to mating, specific behavioral data for A. blancheae remain limited.[2]
The species was described by D.K. McAlpine in 1991.[3]
