Ecology
Ametadoria harrisinae is a species of tachinid fly. Like other members of the family Tachinidae, it is a parasitoid. It has been documented as a parasite of lepidopteran species, including Acoloithus and Harrisina americana (Zygaenidae).[2] It is also known to be parasitized by Dibrachys (Pteromalidae).[2]
Visual Description
Based on examination of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Ametadoria harrisinae exhibits the characteristic body form of a tachinid fly, with a robust thorax and abdomen.[1] The specimens display prominent, well-developed bristles (macrochaetae) on the thorax and abdomen, which are typical diagnostic features for the family. The wings are clear and held in a position characteristic of the order Diptera. Due to the nature of the preserved specimens, finer morphological details such as specific wing venation patterns or subtle coloration are difficult to resolve in the available imagery.[1]
