Visual Description
Americina media is a species of fly within the family Scathophagidae. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a fly with a slender, elongated body typical of many dipterans. The thorax and abdomen are covered in fine, sparse setae (hairs). The wings are clear and membranous, with distinct venation patterns characteristic of the family. The legs are relatively long and slender, also bearing small, visible bristles. The coloration is generally muted, consisting of shades of brown and grey, which may serve as camouflage in its natural environment.[1]
General Information
Americina media was originally described by Becker in 1894 under the basionym Parallelomma media.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Americina.[2]
