Visual Description
Members of the genus Americina are small flies typical of the family Scathophagidae. Based on observations of museum specimens and field photographs, they exhibit a slender body form characteristic of many dung flies. The thorax and abdomen are often marked with distinct patterns, and the wings are generally clear or lightly tinted.[1]
Biology and Phylogeny
Phylogenetic analyses, particularly those utilizing the COI gene, have demonstrated that the genus Americina is closely related to other members of the family Scathophagidae, including the well-studied Scathophaga stercoraria, as well as the genera Leptopa, Micropselapha, and Parallelomma.[2]
