Visual Description
Amblypsilopus unicinctus is a member of the family Dolichopodidae, commonly known as long-legged flies. Examination of museum specimens reveals the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the genus Amblypsilopus. The specimens exhibit long, thin legs and delicate, membranous wings. Due to the nature of the preserved material, finer morphological details such as specific setal patterns or precise coloration are difficult to resolve, but the overall habitus is consistent with the diagnostic features of the family.[1]
Classification and History
Amblypsilopus unicinctus was originally described by M.C. Van Duzee in 1927 under the name Psilopus unicinctus. The species is currently recognized as an accepted name within the genus Amblypsilopus.[2]
