Visual Description
Amblypsilopus rotundiceps is a member of the family Dolichopodidae, commonly known as long-legged flies. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal characteristic features of this group, including slender, elongated legs and a metallic or iridescent body coloration, which is typical for many species within the genus Amblypsilopus.[1]
History and Classification
Amblypsilopus rotundiceps was originally described by J.M. Aldrich in 1904 under the name Agonosoma rotundiceps.[2] The species is currently accepted as a valid taxon within the genus Amblypsilopus.[2]
