Visual Description
Amblypsilopus psittacinus is a small, slender fly typical of the family Dolichopodidae. Observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a metallic, often iridescent body coloration, which is characteristic of many species in the subfamily Sciapodinae.[1] The wings are generally clear (hyaline) and possess a distinct venation pattern, including an elbow-shaped bend in vein M1.[2] The legs are notably long and slender, a common trait in this genus.[2]
General Information
Amblypsilopus psittacinus (Loew, 1861) is the type species of the genus Amblypsilopus Bigot, 1888.[2] The genus is globally distributed and highly diverse, containing approximately 360 species.[2] Amblypsilopus is considered a challenging genus to define, with many species showing subtle morphological differences, particularly among females.[2]
